Clara Mae Baker

Clara Mae (Carol) Baker, age 96, of Norwalk, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Norwalk Memorial Home, after an extended illness.

She was born December 18, 1913 in Penfield Township, Ohio. In 1931 she graduated 2nd in her class at Eaton High School. Mrs. Baker retired from Bendix Corporation as a machine operator in 1976, after 26 years of service. She lived briefly in Prescott, Arizona then 13 years in Mountain Home, Arkansas, where she volunteered at the local hospital. She then moved to Norwalk in 1992 and volunteered as a “pink lady” at Fisher-Titus Medical Center until late 2005. She enjoyed playing cards and working crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her son, Milton J. (Jean) Baker of Oberlin, OH and Hernando, FL; daughter, Mrs. William (Bonnie) Roth of Sheffield Village, OH; seven grandchildren, James (Laura) Baker of Arizona, Cynthia (Douglas) Canada of West Salem, M. Jay (Reannie) Baker of Sullivan, Robert Roth of Birdsboro, Pennsylvania; LuAnn Roth of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, Paul Roth of Grand Blanc, Michigan and Daniel (Julie) Roth of Sheffield Village; seven great-grandchildren, two step-great grandsons, and four great-great grandsons.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Corrine, at birth in 1938; a grandson, Steven Baker in 1971, a great grandson, Joshua Canada in 2002; three sisters, Della Chevalier of Berlin Heights, Mildred Wolfe of Parma, and Ethel Cole Bright of Wellington; and her parents, Carl E. McAlpine and Bertha E. (Lewis) McAlpine.

There will be no visitation or service. Arrangements by the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk.
