William "Bill" White

William “Bill” “Sparky” Peter White, age 75, of Norwalk and formerly Wakeman, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.

He was born October 5, 1948, in Norwalk to the late William J. and Evelyn A. (Rinner) White.  He was a 1968 graduate of St. Paul High School and BGSU studies in Communications and broadcasting. Bill served in the US Navy from 1969 until 1971 serving in Naples, Rome, Italy. He also graduated from the Police Academy in Columbus. In his earlier years he worked for W.L. Mead Company in Norwalk for seven years, then served as a police officer in Monroeville, retiring in 1989 as 2nd in command. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cooking, baking and spending time with his family.  Bill was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Wakeman and was a Past Grand Knight, Past Faithful Navigator and District Deputy in the Toledo Diocese, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4539 in Vermilion, Assembly 813 Bishop Machebeuf in Sandusky, Council 626 in Norwalk, former Catholic War Veterans Fr. John Duffey in 1968, Eagles Club in Wakeman and the Kentucky Colonels in KY.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cathryn M. (Smedley) White to whom he married on October 5, 1973; children, Jason (Tracie) White of Tiffin, Timothy (Cyndi) White of AL, and Kala (Nathen Lewis) Dunn of Toledo; grandchildren, Alexis and Emma; siblings, Mark White and Jean (Alex) Winkler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Marcia White; and dear friend, Jeff Perrin.

Visitation for friends and family will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 16, 2024, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Wakeman with Father Ron Brickner officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at 12:45 P.M. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Mary Catholic Church, 46 E. Main Street, Wakeman, OH 44889.
