Monica L. Schaffer

Monica Louise Schaffer, age 76, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 9, 2026.

She was born December 22, 1949, in Norwalk to the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Frey) Schaffer. She attended St. Paul High School and raised her children. She retired after 25 years as a bus driver and custodian with Huron City Schools and was a social member of Norwalk Eagles Aerie 711 and the VFW Post 2743. She was an avid cook and baker and enjoyed making dinners for the family holidays. She cherished time spent fishing on Lake Erie with her grandchildren, and enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino.

She is survived by her children, Melissa (Johnnie) Mercer, Teresa (Scott) Crabtree and Frank Didion Jr.; grandchildren, Bo, James, Dustin, Ashley, Taylor, Miranda, Reid and Kash; great-grandchildren, Bo, Ethan, Miah, Emilia and Jagger; siblings, Mary (Roddy) Holland, Alexis (Darrell) Moll, Raymond Schaffer and Brian Schaffer; nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Mary Angela “Angie” Nida; and her brothers, James Schaffer and Steven Schaffer. 

A celebration of Monica’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk.

Memorial contributions may be sent to one’s favorite hospice program.
