About The Evans

John Evans

Raised in the Beartooth Mountains in Montana, John graduated from Absarokee High School in 1986 and began serving a two-year apprenticeship near Yosemite Park, California from 1986 until beginning Cypress College's Department of Mortuary Science in 1988. After receiving his certification in Mortuary Science, and passing the California Embalmers exam and National Board exam he became a Licensed California Embalmer on July 17, 1989. Attending night school he earned an Associate in Science Degree in June 1990, and continued his efforts receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a health care emphasis from the University of Redlands on January 31, 1996.

Having met Jennifer while attending Mortuary School and marrying in 1993 they moved to her hometown of Norwalk, Ohio in 1996, and received a reciprocating Ohio Embalmer license on December 18, 1996 and Funeral Director license on June 5, 1997.

On September 25, 2000, after much hard work and dedication, John became part-owner and managing funeral director of the Evans & Groff Funeral Home; and along with his wife Jennifer (Traczek), took full ownership June 16, 2005, now Evans Funeral Home. He received the highest designation in funeral service in 2007, as a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner.

John is thrilled to be a part of the Norwalk community for over 20 years. He began his active volunteer experiences as a member of the Norwalk Jaycees in 1996. He soon became ardently involved in many more organizations such as: past president and ex-offico board member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association (OFDA), past president of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice, past president of the Norwalk Economic Development Corp., past chairman of the Norwalk Catholic School Governing Board, past president of Senior Enrichment Services. He is honored to be a member of Shakespeare Club, Norwalk Elks Lodge, Eagles Aerie 711, Knights of Columbus Council 626; Huron County Chamber of Commerce, Norwalk Area United Fund, Huron County Airport Authority, and Huron County Community Health Center.

Jennifer Evans

Raised in Norwalk, Jennifer graduated from Norwalk High School (Go Truckers!) in 1987. Having completed her bachelor in Business Administration with a Marketing emphasis at California State University, Fullerton, she went on to receive her Funeral Director's License in 2002 from the State of Ohio Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors. She served her funeral director apprenticeship with her husband here in Norwalk. Jennifer is also a licensed Cosmetologist in both Ohio (since 1988) and California (since 1989), which has been a passion since she was 13 years old.

After graduating from California State University Fullerton in 1996, Jennifer returned to Norwalk and is pleased to serve in her hometown community. With an innate desire to learn and help others, she has actively volunteered in Norwalk civic organizations such as: The Shoestring Players Board, Kiwanis, Project Leadership of Huron County Board, Huron County Safety Council Board, Endowment Fund for Norwalk City Schools Board, Youth Ministry Team for St. Paul Catholic Church, PSR Instructor for St. Paul Catholic Church, Huron County Chamber of Commerce Board, Jaycees, Public Library Board, Shakespeare Club, Catholic Charities Advisory Board, United Fund, and the Huron County Humane Society.

Jennifer enjoys being a member of local organizations, too. She is a member of the Norwalk Elks Lodge and Norwalk Eagles Auxiliary. She is also a member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association (OFDA) and National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA).
