Robert P. "BULLDOG" Freeland

April 05, 2017

Robert P "BULLDOG" Freeland, age 72, of Norwalk, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in Toledo with his family by his side.

He was born April 9, 1944 in Willard, Ohio to the late Robert P. Freeland, Sr. and F. Lucille (Zellers) Freeland. He graduated from Attica Local Schools in 1962 and worked for GTE in Norwalk before pursuing his passion for artistic drawing. A self-taught and exceptional artist, BULLDOG began his artistic career before the computer age. Opening his own business in 1982, BULLDOG Art & Sign, his craft turned heads. Freehand art fueled his attention to detail creating perfect renditions of company logos and brought to life his customers' artistic requests. From old-school artist through transitioning to computer graphic artist in the mid 90s, his ambition for art and customer satisfaction never ceased, his customers wouldn't let him go. He was a car enthusiast his entire life and spent years drag racing at Norwalk Raceway Park. His passion for art and cars did not take away from his love for his Heavenly Father, his family or his friends. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce (Shoup) Freeland; children, Pam (Mike) McKenzie of Willard, John Freeland of Norwalk and Chris (Dr. Wendy) Freeland of Berlin Heights; sister, Patty (Glenn) Dalton of O'Fallon, Illinois; sister-in-law, Jan (Randy) Shepherd of Eugene, Oregon; brother-in-law, Tom (and the late Darla) Corbin; grandchildren, Mitchell McKenzie and Olivia Joyce Freeland; great-grandchild, Chloe Stanford-Jones; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Darla Corbin.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate BULLDOG's life will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street and also from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service Wednesday, 11:00 A.M., at the Norwalk Alliance Church with the Pastors Michael Bochman & Kevin Seager officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Huron County Humane Society, 246 Woodlawn Avenue, Norwalk, OH, 44857 or the Norwalk Alliance Church, 2755 US-250, Norwalk, OH, 44857.

We have been so blessed to spend time with Joyce and Bob in our house church group. He was such a dear person and so devoted to learning more about his Lord and Savior. A very talented man who loved his family and often spoke of them with pride. We are so lucky to have known him. I was just thinking of him this morning and thought, "Now all the streets that are paved in gold in heaven will have signs, as well as a big "Welcome" sign at the gate!" God continue to bless you and your family. Hope to see you again someday! Love & Prayers!

Rest in peace Bulldog. Thank you for being my friend and working pal at GTE. I knew you would be a success with your art work because God gave you that talent. He also gave you the ability to love your family and friends as a husband, father and friend should. We will miss you here. I hope to see you latter when it is my turn. God bless your family. My heart is with you.
