Phyllis Rhoad

Phyllis Rhoad, age 85, of Norwalk, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
She was born August 2, 1938, in Norwalk, OH. Phyllis was a dedicated mom and grandma. She loved to bake for her family and friends. They especially looked forward to her annual Christmas cookies. Her kids enjoyed the family tradition of decorating the sugar cookies. She enjoyed family trips to a different destination each summer along with Alaska, Hawaii, and many fun trips with the Norwalk Senior Center. She was a lifelong resident of Norwalk and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. If you visited her house, you quickly realized that she was a giraffe enthusiast with a large collection of giraffe themed items. She enjoyed many visits to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo to visit the amazing giraffe herd. The giraffes will miss her! She was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Indians fan and loved to exercise and socialize with her fitness group. Phyllis worked as a phone company operator at a young age and then at the Huron County Schools Administrative office for over 20 years.
She is survived by her children, Deb (Craig Martinez) Failor of Berthoud, CO and David Rhoad of Littleton, CO; grandson, Ethan Rhoad of Littleton, CO; sister, Geraldine Schneider of Valrico, FL; and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Agnes M. (Schaffer) and Joseph C. Gross, husband Lyle L. Rhoad, and her son, Stephen Lyle Rhoad as well as her siblings Raymond Gross, Mary McLaughlin , Paul Gross, Norbert Gross, Charles Gross, and Bernard Gross.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 12, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk, and a luncheon will follow. Private interment will be at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery.
